I was walking with my mum and dad going back from a walk to the duck pond when on the cycle path my dad saw a black caterpillar nice ‘n’ fat with orange fur it was wriggling from the grassy side of the path my Dad got a leaf and put it in front of the Caterpillar and it crawled on it immediately we heard a click snip click sound from the caterpillar as it it slowly munched through the leaf my Dad and Mum pulled up grass and plants with the right leaves it didn’t eat the grass so if we took it home we could pull some up from our back garden and feed it but the stuff don’t grow in my garden i pulled off my NO FEAR baseball cap and put the caterpillar in the cap then put leaves in it the moment we dropped it in the cap it rolled up in a ball we couldn’t take it home or it would die so we dropped it in a side were it was hidden and plenty of grass to eat it couldn’t be found or crawl out.

I love your website because it shows me what my
2 hairy caterpillers are going to turn into.
I love you very much!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
love,
richtal
Thank you very much
Hah! I found four of these today. Drinker caterpillars are handsome caterpillars in my opinion, with a navy blue backround, and an orange and a white stripe down each side, and two little tufts of hair at each end of the body. I also found an adult Drinker in holiday in Scotland.
don’t be so cocky, i found something like 20.
Great photo!
Saw a caterpillar today and identified it from your picture.
What a beast of a caterpillar!!
A great photo, and thanks for helping me to identify my own photo! I also took a good image of this caterpillar while walking along the river Stour at Dedham on the morning of 31.05.2009 while out to take photos of the Banded Demoiselle damselflies. On the previous day I also got very good first time images of the ‘Beautiful Demoiselle damselflies, copies available if you are interested.
